FACIAL
REJUVENATION / COSMETIC SURGERY
"There
is nothing in the craft of any art so exquisitely beautiful that
it can surpass that shown by the skillful master of surgery."
Lord Moynihan
Linacre Lecture, Cambridge, England
1936
The improvement of physical appearance enhances ones self image. Facial rejuvenation
procedures are specific and detailed, and are designed to address an individuals
targeted area for enhanced image.
Todays goal of facial rejuvenation is to soften image transitions, while
emphasizing the conservation of and precise anatomic repositioning of the tissue.
Composite tissue lifting, including a strong fixation against the forces of gravity
and the nature of facial aging, is the key to natural and long-lasting results
in facial rejuvenation. Adding fat and other soft tissue fillers creates a smoothing
of contours, and reestablishes the characteristics of a more youthful appearance.
An aggressive topical skin care program to achieve skin health is the finishing
touch.
Carefully choose a surgeon with whom you feel comfortable and confident.
The surgeon must also feel confident that the expectations of the patient
are realistic before accepting the surgical responsibility.
While a wide variety of facial rejuvenation procedures are available to address
individual anatomy and desires, the choice of surgeon is critical. Cosmetic surgical
procedures are not magic, but a combination of art and science. While it is not
possible to guarantee specific results, experience, judgment, skill in execution
and the professional motivation for surgical perfection are key qualifying factors.
Communication between surgeon and patient is extremely important,
from the initial consultation and goal setting, through post-operative
recovery.
An
initial, personal consultation between the prospective patient and
the surgeon is a critical first step. This meeting allows the surgeon
to meet with the patient regarding specific desirable procedures and
expectations. It also offers the surgeon the opportunity to examine
physical factors such as skin condition, facial fat, age characteristics
of the tissue, hormonal influences and the underlying bone structure all
of which influence the surgical procedures and results. The surgeon
must carefully and thoroughly analyze reasonable attainable results
before reaching a recommendation about surgical procedures. Any patient
misconceptions about procedures and results must be eliminated at this
time. Every effort is then made to clearly and precisely offer a professional
opinion as to whether a specific surgical procedure can significantly
improve the areas of concern with a high degree of reliability, and
at minimal risk.
"The
final choice in surgical procedures lies with the patient. We urge
you to consider decisions carefully and deliberately."
